1. Haritaki (Terminalia chebula)
 

Terminalia chebula is widely used in the traditional medicine of India & Iran to treat. Diseases that include dementia, constipation, and diabetes. T. Chebula is also widely studied

regarding its pharmacological activities such as antioxidant, hepatoprotective, neuroprotective, cytotoxic, antidiabetic, and inflammatory activities among others.

Wound healing activity: 

Topical administration of an alcoholic extract of Terminalia chebula on the healing of rat dermal wounds showed that T. Chebula treated wound healed faster as indicated by improved rates of contraction & decreased period of epithelialization

Short-term clinical trials have been carried out on patients with simple constipation, mental & physical disability, allergic rhinitis, and mental stress. In all the cases T. Chebula-containing drugs showed good effects in the treated groups when compared to their normal control Patients.

Hemorrhoids are one of the most common complaints affecting GIT. The treatment of hemorrhoids in modern medicine causes many side effects. In Persian medicine, T. Chebula is one of the best choices for the treatment of hemorrhoids. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy & safety of T. Chebula on hemorrhoids.

Potential uses of Haritaki: 

  • It helps with conditions like ophthalmia, hemorrhoids, bleeding gum & mouth ulcers
  • Its water-based paste may show ant-inflammatory & analgesic properties & helps to heal Wound.
  • A decoction made of Harad fruit may be used as a gargle in cases of oral ulcers & sore throat.
  • Its powder may be an effective astringent (applied to reduce bleeding) dentifrice for loose gums, bleeding & gum ulceration
 
2. Mahanimb(Melia azedarach)

 

Neem, due to its potential properties, has been used in Ayurvedic medicine for more than 4000 years. Its main indications are anti-dermatic, and anti-allergenic activity will help with skin diseases like acne, eczema, and Psoriasis. It has antipyretic activity and anti-scabies activity. Also, it is helpful in itchy skin conditions.

In cypile, the drug Neem acts because of its anti-rheumatic activity & blood-purifying properties. In the case of hemorrhoids, there will be Raktha pith dosha and mamsa datu vitiation occurring so there will be the chances of allergic conditions like Skin problems, the main reason for Skin disease is impure blood. 3. Dharuharidhra (Berberis aristata)

Berberis aristata – its major therapeutic properties are Stomachic, antiseptic, antipyretic, laxative, and antidiarrhoeal. The plant is used in Skin diseases, in menorrhagia, for the treatment of wounds

  • Fresh berries are Ascorbic & laxative and can help Sores, piles, and eye disorders especially conjunctivitis
  • Root bark decoction treats piles, blood coagulation, and skin diseases like boils
  • Fruits are employed in the treatment of piles

Benefits of Daruharidra for piles: 

The extract of daruharidhra is one of the main constituents of the anti-haemorrhoidal pilex tablets which treat bleeding piles.

4. Suran (Amorphophallus Campaulatus)

Potential use of Amorphophallus Paeoniifolius: 

The tuber of elephant yam may help relieve pain. The analgesic activity of Surana extract was evaluated on mice Surana may inhibit the synthesis of prostaglandins, which are responsible for inflammation. It may be used to reduce the side effects of conventional analgesics as add on drug.

potential use of surana in gastrointestinal diseases: 

Surana is used in traditional medicine for gastrointestinal disorders like piles, abdominal pain and constipation.

The property of increasing gastrointestinal motility has been tested on Wistar rats. It was proven that elephant yam increases motility in the stomach (gastrokinetic action) therefore, it may be used to treat gastrointestinal disturbances.

The tuber of Amorphophallus paeoniifolius, commonly called Suran has medicinal &food value It is used in ethnomedicinal practices for the correction of gastro. Intestinal disturbances Such as constipation and hemorrhoids.

The present study evaluated the effect of A. paeoniifolius tuber on gastrointestinal motor functions. For This experiment was done on Rats by Oral administration of methanolic or aqueous extract of tuber for 7 days.

The results indicate the gastro kinetic Potential of the tuber extracts.

This may be attributed to the presence of glucomannan & betulinic acid present in extracts.

In conclusion, the tuber of A. paeoniifolius exhibits gastrokinetic activity and Substantiates its traditional use in gastrointestinal motor disturbances.

 

 

5. Kutaj (Holarrhena antidysenterica)

Kutaja herb has long been used as a cure for diarrhea and intestinal worms in Indian traditional medicine. The barks and roots are used effectively for the management of both acute & Chronic dysentery, particularly in situations where there is a lot of blood and mucus, colic discomfort & loose Stools.

Benefits of Kutaja in managing Piles: 

In patients with bleeding piles, the stem bark extract of H. antidysenterica in kutajatrak Churna exhibited therapeutic action

Anti-diarrheal Benefits Of Kutaja: 

As Per in vivo experiments, for castor oil-induced diarrhea in rats, ethanolic Seed extracts of Kutaja showed a considerable rise in the dry weight of stools & a reduction in defecation drops. Enteroinvasive E. coli, shigella flexneri, Shigella boydii, and Salmonella enteritidis are all susceptible to bark extract.

Shonitarsha (Bleeding piles) is a common chronic painful disease afflicting mankind having only surgical treatment (haemorrhoidectomy) In modern Science recurrence is more often. Bleeding per rectum during defecation with fresh blood not mixed with motion is the commonest symptom of Shonitarsha. Kutaja is an important plant mentioned in Ayurveda and used successfully in Atisara, Pravahika, and Arsha, especially in Shonitarsa.

The Fine powder of the Holarrhena antidysenterica wall Stem bark was Prepared and given to the patients in a dose of 4 gms twice a day for 2 weeks. The results of this study are Subjective to the significant efficacy of the drug in the symptom “Stoppage of bleeding” in Shonitarsa. All patients completed their entire study period of 4 weeks and 20 out of 22 patients showed a status of well-being. Later, another group also performed a clinical trial for piles and observed that Powder has a significant role in stopping the bleeding in the disease Shonitarsa (bleeding piles) .

A clinical Study on Stem bark extracts of Kutaja in the form of Kutajatvak churn Showed healing activity in patients suffering from bleeding piles.

In a clinical study, it was observed that a daily intake of the bark powder for 15 days completely cured patients Suffering from amebiasis.

 

 

6. Babool (Acacia Arabia)

Babool its main properties are Anti-inflammatory Activity, Immunomodulatory Effect, Haemostatic Property, Antithrombotic Activity.

Antiinflammatory activity: 

Fresh flowers of Acacia nilotica were extracted with extracted 80% alcohol and the concentrated extract was fractionated in the usual way The ethyl acetate fraction was found to contain isoquercetin. The Structure was characterized by uv, NMR, paper chromatographic  chemical studies. The yellow pigment was found to contain promising results with respect to acute Chronic anti-inflammatory Studies it also showed considerable percentage protection of bacteriostatic effect on Bacillus Subtilis, a gram positive organism.

Haemostatic property: 

In a Study the potential of the Polymeric component of aqueous extracts of gum acacia and the seeds Of M.Oleifera (MSP) in wound management was evaluated. The results revealed that both biopolymers were hemostatic and hasten blood coagulation. They showed Shortening of activated partial thromboplastin time and prothrombin time and were non-cytotoxic in nature.

Anti- thrombotic activity: 

A study was carried out by B Bukhtiar H Shah et al that the extract of Acacia nilotica has the capacity to block platelet aggregation mediated by platelet agonists and collagen in a dose- dependent manner. The findings revealed that the Antiplatelet Aggregatory activity of the extract of A. Nilotica is mainly due to blockade of ca 2+ channels, although evidence also suggests that the involvement of protein kinase.

Potential uses of Babool on rectal prolapse:

Prolapse means a displacement of an organ from its normal position. The decoction of babool bark may be used in rectal prolapse The decoction of root bark may be used for Stomach pain. The leave decoction is used in the form of nutool (A method of Pouring the Solution from a height over the specific part) in prolapse. However, its effectiveness on humans requires more testing however, more studies on humans are required to support the potential use of babool for rectal prolapse.

 

 

7. Khoonkharaba(Dracaena cinnabari)

Dracaena cinnabari is an endemic Plant located in Socotra Island, Yemen. Deep red resin attained from different plant species including D.cinnabari is commonly known as dragon’s  blood.

In folk medicine, it is prescribed for the treatment of traumatic dermal, dental and eye injuries as well as blood Stasis, pain and gastrointestinal diseases in humans.

Numerous studies have investigated that this resinous medicine has antidiarrheal antiulcer, antimicrobial, antiviral, antitumor anti inflammatory, analgesic, wound healing and antioxidant activity.

pharmacological effects: 

Hemostasis and wound Healing: The hemostatic Potency of D. Cinnabari resin is found to be effective against external and internal injuries.

Many authors have evaluated the wound healing activity of D. Cinnabari resins using animal model For example, the ethanolic extract of. D. Cochinchinensis resin showed antithrombotic & anticoagulation activities in rats like wise, Liu et al (35) demonstrated that rats that received an ethanolic extract D. Cochinchinensis resin showed significantly better wound contraction and skin-breaking Strength compared with the control group.These results highlight the significance of dragon’s blood resin in the reduction of clotting time. Other In vitro studies have shown inhibitory effects of three compounds, isolated from dragon’s blood on ADP-Induced platelet aggregation. In addition, a clinical trial. conducted by Nam joyan Suggested that dragon’s blood resin from croton lechleri is a potent , affordable and healing Safe agent.
